Quick Tips

Here are a few basic troubleshooting tips that might help you solve some common problems.
Of course we realize that if your problem is 'no internet connection' you will have no way of reading this unless you have an internet cell phone!... So ask your friends to bookmark this page and then they can talk you through it.

Any Minor Hardware/Software Errors:
Always try restarting your computer before you panic!
If errors persist then you may have a problem!
It is best to restart your computer at least once a day as this is how it keeps itself 'organized'.

No Internet Connection:
If you are getting the "Page Cannot be Displayed" error, first check that all relevant leads are properly connected and then try the following:

1. Unplug the power source to your modem and your wireless or wired router if you have one, wait 10 seconds then reconnect . Ensure all the lights return to their normal 'on' state.

Note: If you use a DSL service (Bell), please check that the "DSL" and/or "Internet" is lit (names vary with different modem models).
If you use a Cable service (Cogeco), please ensure that the "Cable" and/or "Internet" light is lit (names vary with different modem models).

If the "DSL", "Cable" or "Internet" lights do not return to a solid and on state, you may have an issue with your internet line so call your service provider.

2. Run your Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware software, if you have them. Many viruses and spyware programs can prevent you from getting on the internet. Some may even direct you to a website other than your browsers homepage and not allow you to navigate to other websites.

Can't send or receive email
There are many email providers and just as many email clients in today's world and listing trouble- shooting guides for all of them would take up the entire site, so here are some general tips to get you started:

1. Make sure that all your account settings are correctly entered in the "Accounts" section of your email client. It sometimes helps to remove* and re-add the account *Warning: some email accounts when removed also remove the emails associated with that account, so do this with caution, or make sure you first back-up any mail you wish to keep.

2. Some ISPs (Internet Service Providers) block all outgoing email except through their own service (ie, you can only send mail through a Bell DSL line if you have a Bell email account). This can be troublesome with laptops that are constantly moved from location to location. Contact the local service provider and ensure that you have the correct outgoing mail settings for the internet connection you are currently using.

3. Most email services use ports 110, 25, 465 and 995 for incoming and outgoing email. Ensure that your firewall is not blocking these ports. You can access the Windows firewall in Windows XP and Vista through the control panel. If you use third party firewall software (Norton, Mcafee, etc...) please refer to your manual.

OUR BEST TIP: Keep a current back up of all your data and if you encounter serious problems we can have you fully restored, up and running in a few hours at minimum cost.
